About Grackles at my backyard feeder, I think they come by the thousands (or at least seems that way) and they cover the feeder and when they leave (10 minutes later!) the food is all gone! But they're beautiful in their own way! 1/500@4.0, ISO 640.

Thanks so much Roberto! They're grackles and I have LOTS of them at my backyard bird feeder. When they come they come in VERY LARGE groups and clean out the feeder in a matter of minutes but they're beautiful birds. Darlene

Superb image, so perfect, like a Chinese print! The contrast between the dark feathers and the eyes is wonderful, so is the one on the left - perfectly still (it seems) and the other flapping her wings like in a ballet! Superb DOF, and subdued colors! Amazing capture, Darlene!

Darlene -- Great capture! Such action and drama. This certainly is the decisive moment. Also, I really like the way you've isolated your subjects using depth-of-field: an absolutely uncluttered background. This technique adds to the drama and overall success of the image. Very well done.

Great shot Darlene and a scene I'm familiar with in our front and rear gardens. Start them off with plenty of eats and before you know it the levels have moved alarmingly.
The wing motion is wonderfully dramatic and the whites of the grackles' eyes, well I can't recall seeing that vivid a detail before. Well done you clever girl...Best wishes ..Ray

600mm !!!!!!!Oh my goodness, and how do you spot all these? Do you have a 600 mm pair of spects too?!

My budget was less, so I have settled for a 18-35 zoom. Could not pay in full, so the 35 range is still inoperative.

So that's what they are Grackles huh. I saw one mooching fries at a fast food joint strangest thing I every saw with the white eye. This is really super I love the color and the in flight catch. The one wing of the right bird has some artifacts, I'm not sure how to fix it. If I had to guess I'd blur it.
The iridescents of the wings is superb.
