Hi Paul,
I think you can also take a sharp shot of the moon with the equipment that you have. I took a look at your moon shot, and as you mentioned, you used the same lens with a Digital Rebel. Anyways, this shot was taken at 1/160. With such speed you don't really need a tripod, you can get a sharp and focused steady shot hanheld.

wow ferran hand held! There is a lot to be said about the image stabilizer! I could not even get close to this hand holding with my lens! Very nice shot! glad you posted! I took my moon shot and did some work on it in dreamsuite and panit shop pro. I'll post it today sometime. If you get a chance to check it out let me know what you think of it.
