About I got lucky in Arrastradero and found this guy hunting. Although they are shy and do not allow close approach, this one was tolerant to my presence.
This shot is for the hawk lovers.

Hi Dave,
I did not use a flash for this image.
I was very close to this Harrier with the perfect light that I needed for this decisive moment.
However I have one better beamer made by Visual Echoes. I don't use it very often because only 1 out of every 4-5 pictures that I take with AL Servo mode come out bright.
2 of my friends use the flash extender with very amazing results.
Take care.

So, you must have one of those flash devices that allow fast shutter speeds. Do you use a flash extender?

I like it a lot better, But you got the SC award and that shows how much I know!! I a grat shot with the mouse and I think it helped.. We get very few down here in the desert, I guess it because lack of water. The come down in winter when the snow up north is deep and food is easy down her...I did have one big harris hawk land on my Ham radio antenna and the guy new door called but I was later and onlt got a couple shots(before the 100-400IS)..Attachedimage
Congratulation on the SC and keepup the good work.

Hi Don, I removed the shadow around the head and neck.
Do you like this one better?
Although the shadow from the left wing still present.
I guess the shadow effect could have been eliminated using a better beamer?
What do you boss?

Hi Yamil,
Since my last comments on your photos, you uploaded some more stunning ones and I love them all. Being unable to comment all of them, I chose this one as I have never seen a hunting hawk...it is OUTSTANDING and it really deserved the award...congrats.
Thanks for all your compliments...appreciate...and glad you like my photos.
Regards,
Mireille

Congratulations on the award for this shot Yamil. I looked at the shadow and decided it could not have been flash as the distance from camera would have rendered flash ineffective. That said I find the shadow enhances the image. To me it is unique. My compliments on such a fantastic capture.
Den
PS What a shame that we have lost such a great wildlife photographer as Lee Harris. I for one will miss him sorely.

Hi Don,
I took this picture around 5pm with a clear sky.
The light is 100% natural. I don't use flash for shooting birds, although I have seem some stunning results with the use of flash at day light.
I was thinking about fixing the shadow, but them I change my mind. Shadows are an integrated part of the landscape.
I find very difficult to avoid shadows, even with a perfect day light. Maybe using the flash can fix this issue.
I appreciate your comment; it?s making me think about other options.
Take care my friend and I hope some day you will visit me in California.

H Yamil, great capture, but have one question? the shadow of his neck/head did you use a flash or was this from the natural light? it is such a strong shadow? I've had good success with fill flash using a sigma 500 super DG in FP mode and shutter speed of 1/2000 with the 100-400, but the distance can't be more than 20-30 feet. works great for humming birds and things you can sneak up on (:-)
