About This was taken at Swift River on our vacation last fall in the White Mountains, New Hampshire. There were some amazing colours, great for photographers :) I loved the way all the colours from nearby trees were reflecting in the still water and the 'blue' of the rocks. Polarizer used with a warming filter on a tripod. I was ankle deep in the water when shooting this...*S*

Shot 1 stop underexposed.

Fantastic image, all the best. Just the red framing is a bit distracting and signature is not placed so well. The rest is absolutely amazing.

Beverley Lu Latter   {K:513} 2/25/2005
Thanks again everyone!! Much appreciated!

The 'blue' on the rocks is really on the slide. No photoshop other than sharpening and tweaking to get it to match the slide, and of course the framing.

I was looking back on my notes I kept on exposures for our trip to New Hampshire (I was playing around with different ones for different results) and I actually shot this one 1 stop underexposed. This may account for the stronger 'blue' on the rocks, not to mention the deep shady location, the Kodak slide film, and polorizer. I've now added exposurer information on the image which I had forgotten about.

Congratulations on the well deserved BIP.

Yes, I saw the information on the polarizer (usually a good idea for landscapes on sunny days, I think) and the warming filter. Yes Velvia I have seen, but did not recognize the Kodak E100VS -- gorgeous stuff.
Scanners.. I am in the process of researching to purchase a new one to go with my new system soon (I hope). My old scanner is very very bad and it takes a lot of tweaking on anything, so I have not scanned very many of mine in yet.
You have done a masterfull job of getting this 'in camera'. Your whole portfolio shows talent and an eye for the artistic in every upload.

Wow! Thank you everyone!!! I woke up this morning to find a hugh amount of comments and BIP! I am truly honored :)

Hi David, Yes the 'blue' on the rocks seem to come from adding the polarizer. The rocks were in strong shade and the trees reflecting were in strong sunlight late in the day. The rocks were already a grey-blue colour, but by adding the polarizer, seem to make the 'blue' leap out as well as the rest of the colours. Not to mention I was using Kodak E100VS slide film which accentuates all colours. Hope that helps :)

Really a great work Beverley, I never see so beautiful color first ! It's great the way the stones looks and the multiple reflections on the water. Great use of the dof and of the polarizer. Great color saturation too from the Kodak film. I have to try once! :)

Thank you Larry and Pat! Much appreciated :)

Thank you M.M!! Those colours are pretty accurate to the original. I had to tweak it a bit to get it to match after scanning, as scanning seems to dull the original colours somewhat (as you probably already know). I use slide film and I prefer Kodak E100VS (VS stands for vivid saturation) and Fuji Velvia. Both slide films are very 'colourful' for nature. I also used a polarizor and warming filter which brought out the colours more and cut down on glare. Hope this helps :)

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique Wow!!! Incredible colors. It was worth being in the water for this one.
At f 16 that swift river must have been rolling along pretty good. This froze it.
I love the colors and composition. Have to add it to my favourites to look back on to see how you got these vibrant colors. I can get colors like that with my little digital Canon, sometimes, but I have yet to learn how to do it with my Elan. The 35mm is so much more fun to use because I have to actually think. :))
