David,
This is a terrific picture, what an opportunity!! I think I would have either moved the camera up some (lose the reflection of the Heron) or move it down more to get more of the reflection in the foreground. Did you manage to get anymore like this?

hello davis.. one great photo with one beautiful silhouette of heron! big the lines of the sky of the sunset, and in this beautiful case the idea of the centered subject. personally I would have taken more water in the low part of the photogram, in order to balance more the reflection! best congrats also for the main.. roby

Beautiful. Great shot! I might crop a bit from the left to focus attention more effectively on the heron.

Right Dave - that's why that first shot is so important. I really didn't learn the short comings of my advanced Sony digicam until I got a DSLR and saw the possibilites open up w/ almost unlimited lens choices (of course limited by one's budget).
Congrats on this scene and happy shooting, Chris

Hi Chris, Well, yes and no. I had seen the heron in the water and moved around till it got up on some rocks and then I got as close as I could without it taking flight. As it was, I didn't get a second shot in this position since the heron was not static. Thanks for the input. Dave

Hi Dave...perfect timing here. You had a great scene to play with...the beautiful sunset and the presensce of a great bird w/ a very strong sillhoute. Two very strong natural elements in the same place at the same time...very nice!
I'm guessing you were zoomed as much as the 5700 would allow? If not, or if you'd had a longer lens, you could have zoomed and cropped from the sky down, to enlarge the reflection and the main subject while still having the colorful sunset in the background. Actually, that would have also helped eliminated the hot-spots that are showing up in the upper clouds.
This is one of those once in a blue moon scenes and congrats on it, Chris

Hi Chris, Yes, I wish I could have gotten more of the reflective image but as it was, I was sitting on a very wet rock next to the water to get this shot. Dave

Good capture here! The silhouette and sunset are great by themselves, then you add in a really pretty reflection and... wonderful!

David, Very nice shot. I like that you included the little sliver of water just below the horizon, it really adds to the layer effect of the image. If there was one little thing I would change...I wish there was just a bit more space between the reflection and the bottom of the image, but of course I don't know if that was possible in this particular situation. Still, that is a very minor nit-pick in what is an overall fantastic shot.
