Thanks John.
It's on a glass plate indeed and it took me some shots to avoid reflexion and to get the focus right, but it worked out nicely indeed.

amazing shot, looks like that thing being on a glass or something like that! so you catch it at the ...AIR! PERFECT focus and flash is very good here with not so strong shinings on its body...really angly bug BUT really a great photo!!!
best regards!

Thank you very much for you comment and suggestions. I don't agree on the background subject. The image needs the background to achieve maximum effect. Without it it loses context and depth. It also degrades as a total composition. And I try to look for a total composition instead of focusing on a subject.

But you have a great portfoleo with proven quality, so I appreciate your thoughts on the matter very much.

Just discovered your porfolio, Sam. This is a fascinating and startling pic of this insect. Clever idea to rotate your image 90 degrees, to give this, 'mid air' impression. To give further impact, I'd clone out the distracting orange bars and shape. It would also give a uniform, black background. 7.

I really like the idea of this - an underneath view! I also like the composition - a nicely fitting diagonal across the photo - and taking the photo through glass is just a really neat idea.
I think the lighting is a little harsh in that some areas are a little blown, and the contrast high, and I don't know hoe you feel about PS - but I reckon cloning out the orange bits in the background would enhance the overall effect (grasshopper hovering in mid air!). However, these points don't stop me enjoying your photo - thank you!

Only just come across this one. It's impressive, the kind of macro that takes on elements of science fiction..

It was taken at the local Zoo. The hopper stood against the glass and I took a few pictures, the two last ones with flash(after the second he got scared and flew); Those last ones were the best but overexposed... I decided to darken the main body but too keep the edges overexposed and this is the result... Almost forgot: I rotated it 90 degrees to achieve the final effect.

This is a very puzzling picture to me . . . a night shot in front of a busy street? But how did the grasshopper come in to it pictured so precicely focused and with such illuminated highlights. Quite a mystery! :) I like it!

Hahaha you made me laugh now, because if my alien goes green seing me then maybe I have that effect on people that look at me... They become so ill that they get green and then throw up! ;-)

  0

Sam Andre Sam Andre   {K:12484} 1/8/2005
Yeah Kristina, my alien doesn't look half as friendly as yours.... but.... It could be aliens rather see your face than mine )

  0

Kristina Kohut   {K:49990} 1/8/2005
Haha you captured an alien too? :-)) It must be a relative to my green alien! While my green looks silly and stupid, your one look evil and angry!

Thankyou Sam for your wonderful comments on my images. You explain them so well.

I see we have both been getting a bit bug-eyed lately. Great capture. We have plenty of these annoying critters around.
