Not sure if you meant this (you probably did) but what kind of hooks me in this picture is the blown out page where the "art" is taking shape, and the fact that the girl's gaze is fixed on it. So I keep looking at the girl and then at the blank page, and wondering what work of art is taking place. The viewer can project his/her own ideas on to that blank page (it could be a poem she is writing, or a drawing, or some music score, maybe even homework!)

Interesting how a "technical flaw" (someone, at some stage, is going to complain about the "blown highlights") can be used so effectively in creating a mood.

Then the eye wanders a bit more, and we see that perhaps she has been working on a different version which she didn't like, and that has gone in the bin.

There are small piles of books and notebooks and sheets of paper --- projects abandoned or projects planned?

All in all, an excellent picture!

Just beautiful. You will cherish this talent of yours most in your old age because it is capturing these sureal moments forever. Most people can only recall a couple times like this were they peek into their childs bedroom and see them as a separate person from themself and feel so proud.

Regards,
Megan

Pat, this is my kind of shot! I like up-close portraits, but I really like including the subject's surroundings to communicate something more about who they are, what they do, etc. etc. I'm glad you left this one as a straight B&W (vs. duotoning). Nicely done..:)
