Roger, from his expression he has a pretty strong dislike of something also. Don't know what that is, but you have captured the moment here. My first wish is to live to be as old as this gentleman. Secondly, if I do, maybe I will not come off to the world as being so gruf. Regards, Mike

Roger, thanks for the explanation you left under my "Sculpture Plaza" picture. I didn't want you thinking I didn't really appreciate and like this excellent photo but the mystery was really bugging me. I do have another site where I can upload bigger versions of my panoramas, but I much prefer the community and activity here. It's good for me to have so many people obviously far more experienced and/or gifted around--a stimulus to improve. I also keep hoping, from occasional mildly encouraging remarks by Al, that the maximum pixel width limit may be relaxed for a maximum pixel PRODUCT (or file size) limit. I'd willingly trade height for width and vice versa... I've written an article on panoramic photography for Usefilm which will go up shortly. Would value your opinion if you read it. Roger and out.

Roger, I think you misunderstood my earlier comment. I was strictly puzzled by the sharpness thing. I appreciate that it was a grab shot, but not why a grab shot should produce such a strange effect. Doesn't it puzzle you? Am I imagining it? I like the shot itself very much indeed but my training as a physicist makes me want to worry away at what looks like a SERIOUSLY curved plane of focus. I cannot think of any simple physical action that would produce this effect if you WANTED to produce it. Unless of course, you applied heroic levels of USM sharpening to the cap and windcheater and left the face untouched because--and I'm really grasping at straws here--it affected the skin texture or something adversely.

A really interesting capture, that is really great on it's own... but then with your title and text, it gets even more interesting and I just sit here and think.

I have a 3 years old son... And now I have to imagine that he will be an old man one day, and just touching that thought is so... so unnatural. And at the same time I know that it's the most natural that can happen. That he WILL become old!

You really captured a great face expression! And the tones and everything... I really enjoy this shot!

Roger Williams Roger Williams   {K:86139} 12/15/2003
Roger, why are the peak of the cap and the left lapel of his windcheater in sharp focus while his face seems not to be? Was he grimacing very rapidly? It can't be that he was turning his head or the cap would be blurred, too. Once I asked myself this question it distracted me from the strengths of this portrait, and made me more conscious of the lack of eye lights and the very dark shadow under the cap on the right of his face... It's a great face, though! a real character...

Great image and a great title. You have an amazing way of capturing subtle moments of reality. I am new to photography and look at your portfolio as something to learn from. Thanks,
