I agree about the out-of-focus foreground mound. Also, a darker surface might make the grains of sugar show up better? It is probably a concious choice in this case, but the spice gets center stage over sugar with the light surroundings and shiny spoons.

I like this one too - in particular the close composition and contrast between the reflective nature of the sugar and warmth of the spice. One thing that (to me) is a little distracting is the out of focus front mound of tumeric, as it's a a little dominant over the in-focus mound behind it? Perhaps shave a couple of millimetres off the top of it (then again that's the food stylist's job, eh). Also, perhaps see a just a few more of the sugar grains with a a little extra edge defintion.

Wonderful shot! I love the contrast between the blur and the sharpness. Not to say that gorgeous golden color of the spice? Is it curry, turmeric, saffron or someting else? Well done.
