About Just experimenting with my 55-250 zoom lens together with 3 kenko extension tubes stacked. Taken outdoors under cloudy skies with macro mode. I kind of like the soft focus of this image, but definately think I could improve... especially with a floral that is better shaped geometrically. Thank you, Saad for the idea here. :-)

This is my favourite of the three but only because of the centre piece Brigitte. You have captured great detail here, right at the heart of the bloom. Well done to you yet again so have another big HUUUUUUG with even more best wishes.......Ray

Thank you, Petal... you're very kind. :-) It is true that cloudy weather is best for flowers.

I have corrected the title from Magnolia to Gardenia. Thank you for the correction, Saad.

Big oops... you are correct, this is a Gardenia, not Magnolia... so sorry... thanks for the correction, Saad. I am not sure about caring for a Magnolia, but my neighbor has a big one that blooms very well. I understand it can take 10-15 years for it to begin blooming, unless you have a "cultivar".

thank you so much for the info,
just a little note to make sure that there is a mutual understanding,
the shot I have posted is for a gardenia, which is very well flourished in my garden,I am talking about an other species Magnolia,it is so different from the gardenia, and now it seems to me that your shot is for a gardenia ,not magnolia, are am I talking right ?
the advice you gave me is for gardenia,is it true also for magnolia ?
Saad.

You are so right about the very very shallow dof with this combination... and I even hand-held this shot.. I am surprised I got it in focus at all! You can shoot from various distances because of the zoom which gives you a little latitude in the dof... I was pretty close to the flower when I shot this. I have to say that I did enjoy the fragrance as I was shooting :-) Congrats on finally getting blooms on yours. I understand that they require acidic well drained soil, some humidity, weekly fertilizer and some shade during the day when the sun is brightest. I have never done anything with mine and it is doing ok. This year I have got more blossoms than ever mainly because we haven't gotten the very hot summer weather too early this year.

very fine one indeed,I have a magnolia in my garden,it was ten years old and haven't bloomed till now,
this is very close to the gardenia indeed,
and I have also the Kenko 3,but I haven't used it at all.
I can not recommend to use it with macro, cause in macro you have a very shallow DOF,and this 3 extension will further make it more narrower, but the shot of yours looks fine,I will give it a try,
thank you so much for this,
my regards,
Saad.

Magnificent Magnolia experiment!! Great DOF and details, nice soft tones (be glad it was cloudy, for with sunshine it would've been very difficult not to 'blow-out' some of the white) and good composition... well done!!
