About I was assisting a group of Russian photographers at Glencoe and Skye and this was our second visit the first night was gorgeous but on this occasion the notorious Skye weather surpassed itself with a fiery crimson glow as though the Cuillin themselves were cut and bleeding. I haven't burned film like that for ages and on this occasion I had scouted out and found the most glorious little foreground feature to point the way toward the best mountain backdrop in Scotland.

TRANSIENT LIGHT.

Pentax 67II, 45mm lens, 0.6ND hard edge grad, f/22 at 20 seconds.

thanks Ian for your reply. My Mac is calibrated with 2.2...maybe I should try using Mac's native gamma 1.8. do you use PC or Mac to do your post-processing ? I am asking this since you said that the sky should look more purplish, indicating that my Mac maybe a little off in calibration.

Hello Debjit thank you for your kind comments. I would say the sky was intended to look purplish rather than cyan the reds of sunset should look crimson rather than scarlet. I have heard of this problem before. Some put it down to the gamma of macs in that they should be 1.8 and not 2.2 as with PC's when it comes to calibrating. The second thing I would add is that the Spyder or its equivalent will only do the best job it can with the ability of the monitor screen it is trying to calibrate. I don't know what the relative qualities are of the screens you are using.

wonderful mood and excellent details. I see a difference in hue in my mac and pc...the mac shows more of the cyan on the blues but pc shows more of a purplish..which one do you think is right ?...both the monitors are calibrated and this is the same problem I have been facing myself...any ideas ?

You done good Ian. Great use of the Velvia, a favorite of mine for many years. The foreground rocks right into the beauty of this great long exposure. This would make a beautiful large print. 11 on a scale of 10.
Be well, Stan

Very beautiful, dramtic landscape. Might not hurt to rotate the horizon about 1deg. clockwise.
