About To give you a sense of the scale, this ice berg is approx. 150 ft high. Many people have asked about the strong blue color of the ice. The deep blue color is caused by the filtration of the longer (red-end spectrum) light waves through the ice. Only the deep blues escape. This is why you can have a bright blue ice-berg on a very gray day.

real impressive capture, the scale is real impressive too. The 3D looks weird for me, just like if the iceberg where add to the photo (even if I know it's not true...), probably the difference of light of the iceberg and the backgroung, and I really like the result. Very nice work.

Yes you are right, the older ice has less oxygen trapped in it and tends to be darker. Also tiny grains of glacial flour and marine particles can effect the way light gets absorbed and reflected back. Thanks for your comment. Debra

Just amazing, Debra! Sigh! It makes me long to go back to Greenland. I was told there that the various colours of the icebergs depended on how old they were, how long time they had been in the water and how much oxygene was left in them. I guess there are many explanantions.
Anyway a stunning landscape from a place I´ve always longed to see. You are very fortunate:-)
Best wishes
Annemette

hi debra. great explanation. the colours do indeed appear strange but real... never actually seen them appear this colour when i've seen them in the past (only on tv documentaries). these icebergs are immense, and glad to be able to view them here.

nicely done. james
