Wow Philip! Too good to be true :)!

I love the colours, exposure and DOF. The image is so dramatic, and highlights the perspective! Absolutely classic! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for you comments. It is a long way but judging from your excellent people and travel photos your are a seasoned traveler. Soussusvlei is worth the effort, I would like to go back.

Tjaart, I have admired all your photos of the Namibian desert posted on usefilm. I guess you were there during some of the rains this past summer (for you, winter for me). That must have been great to see the sky like that as well as the dunes and desert. I would like to go back and spend a few days there, only had half a day in June. Please do post any recent photos or tell me where to go to see them.

Hi Philip, thanks for the honor of adding me as friend. I have not been on usefilm for a long time and the notification got me to log on tonight. Stunning photo and congrats on the PoD - I do believe that the place cannot be done justice to through photography even though I do try. Just came back from there again and will upload some shots...

Ciao

Yes, I agree, everyone who has visited there has this shot or something similar; it is pretty hard to get somethting original there. But now I have a large scale, finely detailed print to put on my wall and look at daily, remembering the stark beauty of the desert.

is always a beauty to see this picture, the only problem I'seen it hundred and hundred time from different photographers, but if was there I would've taken the same shot too,I know.

Check it out on Google Earth at 24 deg 45 min 37.85 sec South by 15 deg 17 min 36.75 sec East. My shooting direction was actually west since it was in the morning and the sun was in the east. The view of Soussusvlei from Google Earth is fantastic, almost as good as on the ground.

Hahaha. I actually pulled up a map of the african continent to make sure Namibia was south of the equator. I was really confused. See you around.

Philip Wilmeth   {K:612} 7/27/2006
Yes I meant looking south, away from the sun. Thanks.

Excellet color palette. The framing is also very good. Nicely done.

Did you mean looking south? Because it appears that the sun is behind you as you took the image (the shadows of the trees go away from you), and since Namibia is south of the equator...

Nice simple composition, with cood light and colors. The layering of colors from the sky down works well.

Congrats on POD and thanks for your recent comment,

Chris

I did increase the saturation very slightly to match the output of my printer but the sky is really that intense there in the Namibian desert in the winter looking north at that time of day. It is sometimes hard to beleive but that is how it looks.
