About Have to call this Marcus' Owlus since he was the one that found this. You can check awesome flight pics of this owl from Marcus and Yamil:
http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1140996
http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1140979

I tried to shoot with him flying but operator and gear just couldn't keep up. So here he is chilling on a fence while my two buddies get ready to capture him in flight, again.

Lol! Same here, when they're in the air, you have to be aware of falling bombs. So yes, perched is also good. Thanks Andre!

Hi Jinggoy,
It seems you three have some great times stalking these predators. Someone has to get the images of the birds standing still and I guess you got the job :)
I notice you have some great action shots in your portfolio too!
I feel much more comfortable when they are sitting still.
Andre

CONGRATULATIONS on a well deserved award Jinggoy. Your wildlife study has been thoughtfully composed with sharp focus, wonderful blurry background from a perfect dof and superb detail. I love the inclusion of link fencing and it's diamond patterning. Well done. All the best....Ray

Thanks again Marcus. I just saw that I got DOD, so it must be my eyes playing games with me (image being soft). Well, without you telling me about this owl, I wouldn't have gotten this shot!

I think I've seen hundreds of birds-on-fence photos but nothing as excellent as this. Your choice of cropping, leaving the diamonds of the chain link was brilliant.

Congratulations on DoD, Jinggoy

LOL the name is really getting longer! do you really see it as a bit soft, I think it looks perfect from my end, The detail and nice natural saturation have it looking just as it did in person, I know some people cant acheive this..
:)

Thanks Marcus, I actually have a new name for him - Marcus Owlus Perchus Fencus. Doyle's is a good one also!

The image is actually a bit soft, I keep looking at it and it somehow bothered me. Yep, them Nikons are good at slow motion and portrait shots!

This is gorgeous. And so clear and striking. That eye! The diamonds of the fence really act like a great natural frame too.

Wow this is really nice Jinggoy, that Nikon can really take some excellent shots when focus is obtained :) Joking. This is probably a better depiction of what the owl actully looked like as oppose to what yamil and I posted. I like the nice twist of the head pose and flattering background! The fence is not the perfect pearch but it sure is sharp LOL, well we can tell them where to land can we..
really excellent, you are well on your way and to try to capture him in flight even with the best gear is quite a task for anyone, though Im sure should you have had a faster focusing lens you would not have had any problem..
P.S. Thanks for naming a owl after me! I cant wait until the next bird ID book comes out with your newly update name for the burrowing owl!
Take care.
Marcus.

Hi Jinggoy - wonderfully composed shot. I love the clarity of the owl and how the blurred background helps it pop out. I'm sure you'll get one in-flight learning with Marcus and Yamil. Keep up the great work!

hi robert, thanks for the encouraging words. for such a small bird that flies so fast, you need all the help you can get, very good technique and a fast lens, if you read some of the reviews on the 80-400mm, it is a slow lens -i've been able to catch the larger birds, but this is my first time to photograph this owl. according to marcus, this bird is almost as quick as a kestrel - which they say is the holy grail for bird in flight shooters. so i'll need to go back and probably play with ISO to see if it can be done with my lens, if not, then i'll stick images of him perched or those bigger raptors and birds in flight. i tell you it's awesome shooting with these guys, you just learn a lot.

beautiful composition Jinggoy, the image is nice and sharp. The rails act as the leading lines to the main subject.

Hi Phil,
Thanks, I hope Marcus doesn't mind. I did give my best shot, but this bird really is FAST! She's about 6 inches at most I think and just zooms like a rocket.
