About Taken through a gondola window above Chamonix at Mont Blanc. I don't know the exposure information, unfortunately, and the UF categories only approximate what film I used. The camera was a Canon EOS Rebel S.

This is a neat shot. The scenery is magnificant. One thing I really like is the way the gondolas are shown as just the passersby that they are. They drift by so occupants can admire the scenery, but realize they are not part of nature's timelessspendour. Now, I wonder if that made any sense at all. It's a great shot. Congratulations on DIOD.

Thanks so much, Susie. The viewpoint was amazing. It was a very long gondola run high over a very large glacier and it stopped I think five times and just sat there, swaying. Eek!

Thanks so much, Ray. I'm really happy you like it. REgarding the info, everything in the "About" section is accurate. Everything else, at least about the camera and equipment, is a lie, unless it refers only to the Cybershot. Sorry it's so confusing, but UF doesn't list my equipment among its choices.
Best wishes,
Steve

CONGRATULATIONS on getting this well deserves award Steve...This is a breathtakingly composed mountainside study with incredible depth. Those three gondolas perched way up there in amongst the mountain mist look absolutely stunning. Well done to you Steve.
Tell me, why do the details regarding this shot, and others, state camera as a Sony Cybershot, yet the 'about' says a Canon Rebel was used? Very puzzling. All the best.....Ray

Thanks for the comment, Manu. As you can probably guess, I like my version. I like yours, too. I think keeping more of the mountain on the right gives a better feeling of the scale of the scene, and leaving the gondola wires on the left lets us know how tenuous a position the gondolas are in while adding the interest of the wide 'X' the wires make. I'm awfully glad you took the time to create your own version.

A truly splendid image! A polarizing filter could completely remove any reflections like the one that is a minor blemish here... I have a PL filter like a small magnifying glass that can be looked through almost like a monacle and then held in front of the lens to get the same effect I've just seen. Simple, inexpensive, and it works!

oh.. wooww steve...
here that i apreciated from the shot, the real incredible atmospehre, from the clouds, the colors and the "open space".. maybe for someone the reflex of the glass of the cabin is "out place ".. but also makes it the idea of the reality does not exclusively seem a photography "hung up"..
congrats for the DOD ciao my friend..

A fantastic image that looks like a scene from Star Wars almost:-) The mountains look like a painting, and the gondolas look so fragile, yet so powerful due to their size, number and colour. Good contrast. A pity about the reflection, but still an amazing photo!:-)
Best wishes,
Annemette

Hi Steve, Very cool shot! The way the gondolas emarge from the ffog with the impressive ridge towering out above the clouds is spectacular; it shows how small we are in the vastness of the Mt. Blanc. Beautiful view... A pity about the reflections near the top, though. A minor detail...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

Brilliant!!! Maybe the only little minus point is the reflection in the window of your cabin, but the composition is superb, as well as the colours.
