Thanks again James. They are cropping up. There were even fisticuffs between the partisan groups while we there there - the nationalists and the communists still don't see eye to eye. The US had a few marines who marched in one city. the crowds booed them until the vets started saying how the US and Canadian equipment saved their lives. I wish i could stay and see how the history is being rewritten.

Thanks James. Unfortunately, my Russian and Ukrainian aren't up to snuff, so I coulnd' ask many questions, let alone understand the stories. If I go back to ukraine I would like to work with a friend who is an historian to start recording their stories.

cheers.

Nice capture. I have some of those medals in my collection back home.

Did you manage to speak to any of these men? They have some great stories...

Great historical image. I didnt know such a union existed. I guess some still harken back to the old days.

Hi Andy. Its a very good photo. I know how difficult it is to get the pandas in a position to make a good photo (they're quite lazy and don't stay out very long during the day, and the place can be crowded). I had to go to the panda reserve twice before i actually got anything decent.

Nicely done.

Loved your Travel photos, you know you should really make an album in this site, www.trekinu.com .

like this presentation,
http://www.trekinu.com/viewtrek.aspx?trkid=mquiko5rgn2bbjt

its free and you can share with us the places you traveled to on the map. takes 3-4 minutes...
(this is NOT a site to replace useFilm, it's for sharing albums with music and send to friends and share here with your photos)

the construction of that building (hotel i think) suggests you were up the mountain around da zhai or ping'an... lovely places. i just left the longsheng area, my fourth and not my last visit to that region. back again in october to catch the fall colours.

I know u could probably not have done this in another way, but had u been closer and down on your knees taking it it would have emphasized the dog, man and the mountains in a fantastic way:-)
Best wishes

That's a shame. I hope you get a chance to see it when you go. It is much better to go onto the site, but I can see why they have limited the number of people who can actually go up to the monument. Good luck.... :)

Speaking of Stonehenge, my daughter is currently spending 6 months in the UK. Stonehenge is now totally off limits to tourists, such a shame. Her emails have prompted me to go have a look for myself...next Aussie winter. CC

Thanks Cathy. It is Stonehenge, they open it at dawn to a small group of people. Some friends were vsiting from the states so we took the opportunity. It is an interesting place to visit, I hope you get the opportunity.

Is this Stonehenge? I have always wanted to experience the energy of these standing stones. I like the unusual perspective which includes modern civilisation. CC

I realise this discussion was commenced many years ago, but I'd like to add my bit...
I think there are different types of people-those that find the joy in the details, and those that have the gift of seeing the big picture.
Personally I like to get up close to examine the detail,(as in your panda portraits) I find the white area up the top of the uncropped version grabs my attention and gets in the way of me digesting the detail.
You have covered both types by presenting both images, and started a stimulating conversation as well. CC
