I love this kind of photos: stark contrasts of lights, playing with focus, contrasting colours ...
Very nice picture.
Regards.

Thanks Sam - it's a lot of luck I find with macro shots. You have some nice, tight, sharp macro work in your portfolio, but I don't suppose you get too many opportunities to take shots of Bluebells where you live :-)

Beautiful the two hues of blue and the depth created by the gradual shift out of focus of the protagonist's echo, toghether with the progressive darkening of the lighting.
I like it very much.

The unusual lighting really makes this a striking composition. Your selective focus is excellent. Nice work.

Chears Hugo - I've got some others with no so much, but I'm not sure they have as much atmosphere - TBH I didn't notice that really till you pointed it out. I do tend to just snap away too quickly sometimes :-)

Hi Jason, if not for the overlap between the two buds, I think this is an examplary floral and an excellent use of minimal DoF. Very well captured.

Cheers,

Hugo

love this shot jason.

I get the impression your standing up higher and the camera is looking down slightly, the bank on the right takes the eye out to the ocean and clouds...

Hi Jason, I see what you mean, the subtelty in the patterns in this one make it much stronger. A higher PoV would've been nice, but I think that would also affect the reflected tones. Always a difficult choice considering the lighting conditions....

Cheers,

Hugo

Thanks Hugo - I think you are right, and that the DOF needs to be bigger/complete. I did some landscape ones but didn't get such a nice pattern (see attached). I'd like to have been able to get a little higher up to flatten the image a bit and increse the DOF but that wasn't possible either. Maybe a lanscape crop of this one would have been better. Thanks for your comment Hugo - I've got quite a few more to come with other colour combinations so I'll certainly take that comment on board :-)

Hi Jason, Very good abstract, with pretty spectacular tones. I feel a bit ambiguous about the DOF, which does create the depth in this image, but also removes part of the abstract element, referencing to the reality. My initial thought would be to remove that reference by following a landscape / panoramic approach, keeping everything in focus, if you see what I mean. Just a thought, the overall view is quite powerful, and rather effective. The longer I look at it, the more it grows on me. Very good abstract.

Cheers,

Hugo

That is exactly what it felt like to me Stefan - warm sunshine and a breakfast table ready to be used. There was a lovely musky smell in this old Medieval building. Count Dracula (Vlad the Impaler) was born about 40 meters from this spot!

Thanks Stefan - the tree is about 20 meters from where I sit at work so I can keep an eye on it and pop out when the light is right. I did darken the background a bit. Glad to like it.
