Actually, this place was teeming with Butterflies. I had no need to chase anything. We went on a cloudy day so they were not as active as on a sunny one. I could just spin around, point, and see butterflies wherever I looked, sunning themselves. It was amazing!

So cute!!! Great colors, excellent detail, DOF and composition (exept for the cropped/chopped ears.. too bad)... but overall well captured 'wild thing....'!!!

hahhaha... I like your "about"... looks pretty wild to me!
I wish the ears weren't chopped, but still, the cuteness is overpowering and makes me overlook such details.
Wonderful DOF and detail again.

I've also heard that butterflies slow down in cooler weather. A photographer at my photo club told me that he will capture a butterfly in the evening, set it on a flower that he wants, and then in the morning he'll go back and take pictures in the early light. Usually he gets about 1/4 an hour of shots before the sun warms it up enough to fly away.
I think I'll be going to the butterfly enclosure! *grin*
Beautiful shot... such excellence in DOF, detail and colour.

John, in a million years I would not have thought of that obvious solution to the flutter-by butterfly challenge! I'm much more likely to be the goofball running around hoping for a lucky shot.

Great tip, thanks for the idea!

Mary Sue, I don't know how Eric, "the Macro God" did it but...One way is to notice that the butterflies tend to revist the same flower over and over. That being true, you can pre-focus on the flower and wait for nature to take its course.
Or you can just chase them around all day like Eric does (;->

Carrots! Carrots! More Carrots!

Thank goodness this beast is contained at the animal park or else gardens across the land would be raided.

Cute as a....bunny!

I've been to a butterfly enclosure before. Getting one to settle long enough to focus and shoot is a challenge!

I love the way this butterfly is poised for lift off. The off center focus makes this delicate little butterfly seem powerful and ready to take on the world.

Great job, eg. It is so great to see your new batch of images!

Eric, this is way wonderful with the colors! I'm not too crazy about the lens flare, though. Maybe it is just because you brought it to our attention.

Must agree with Petros: you are really consistently good at this.

SOOO glad to see you posting.
