The lighting is absolutely perfect. Flash fill would have flattened the image and removed most of the detail you caught in the whites.

It's great to see that a CE4 is still going strong, I had a CM3 in the late 70's and loved it. Scanners, both Nikon & Minolta seem to be the most reliable and efficient but the PF 1800 sold by Jessops is also very good and relitively cheap. I use one of the latter myself.

That Cokin filter seems to do a good job but I am confused by the reflection.
