If you cropped the picture significantly, or especially enlarged a cropped picture, then the quality would decrease. But, you would have had to crop it quite a bit, like by at least half, I would think, to have that happen. Film pictures from 35 mm negs should enlarge to at least 11x14 without significant quality loss. Why, what happened? Did you try to enlarge something for the fair and it doesn't look good? If the enlargement was from a scanned image, then the quality of your scan could definitely be the problem.

Hey...I've got a possible job for you. Email me for more info, ok?

Question...when printing a pic. what would cause it to come grainy lookin? I know it is not my film speed (it was I think 200), is there something else (ie croping, blowing the pic up, ect.) that might cause that effect?

kl,
A photo friend scanned first 20 images with a digital slide scanner...Finally broke down and took about 200 slides to the local Wal-**** store...40 slides for $2.87 on disk...They transposed some images by scanning wrong-side of slide...But overall, not so bad...No damage to slides in my case...Quality is O.K., but not great...A temporary solution to a permanent problem as I have tons of slides too...No Music Issue for me, either...Yet...

Hey, speaking of....have you received your music issue yet? I've been anxiously awaiting it, but mine hasn't arrived. I just checked the website, and apparently it is on newsstands. Hmmmmm....

Hey kl,
Thanks for the tid-bit of info...I subscribe to the Oxford American and it's probably my favorite Magazine too...Especially the Music Issue! And yes,
some of my arts'y shot's are somewhat inspired by what seems to be the Southern Agenda in Photography promoted by Magazines like the Oxford American...Inspired, but not dictated...After shooting 25+ yrs. I kinda' have my own view of what makes a good photo...BTW, I'm an Ole Miss (Oxford) Journalism Graduate...Not that it means anything...Except f/8 and be there...

Nice hairdo! Cute subject. Too bad the b/g is a little distracting, but very eye catching with all the vivid colors.

Looks like the All American Couple to me...Sepia tone works good here. I love Nature and Scenics but Street Photography is a heck of a lot of fun and interesting too, especially in crowds...No,we certainly can't Pigeonhole you... Thanks for sharing!!! Greg

Thanks for the comment--

Not a blur filter, but I have been messing around with different glow, grain, and contrast effects in PS to try and achieve an infrared look...I can't afford the filter for my camera right now.

About the hat...I don't know... probably a rare find! : )

Thanks! I don't do a lot of street photography.

Well, I did indulge in the $1.25 beer, but you have to be 45 years or older to try and hit the dainty. Have you ever heard of a dainty contest? I hadn't, before I moved here.

If your poor wife hasn't had those twins yet, she must really be suffering from the heat...I know, because I was pregnant this time last year!
