Rebecca, Do you sell your work? I love this photo! I haven't been on usefilm in ages but was looking through some photos of old friends and signed up again when I saw this. I showed it to my husband and he fell in love with it too. Can you email me at vanweel@verizon.net?
Thanks,
Carolyn

I like the way you think. :) I tend to shoot instinctively many times, to capture a mood. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

This powerful image connects with the "explorer myth" - our instinct to set out on an unknown journey. The centred composition IMHO has a specific effect: to remove any sense of movement (which may be why Jim doesn't like it) but in this photo it is just right - to make time stand still, as you feel when poised to undertake some scary action (like diving off a high board). So although the shadow points the way she will be going the picture tells us she is still considering whether to set out, telling herself "It is just a short walk" but knowing it may take all her life.

I hate hate hate hate hate hate centered images (but you probably already know that) Then again... it is not always about me... though I tend to think it should be.

(ps... nice shot... just a bit toooooooo centered for me)

I like the way the fireplace and plaque mimics a grill (as in the front end of a vehicle) Still not sold on PS and such... but I like the look of this.

Brian, I did this the hard way . There is a very easy way I have learned since. I use elements 4. Go to layer, then duplicate layer. Then remove color, and get the eraser tool on the left and erase the top layer, leaving the colored one showing. Then flatten your layers and wa la!!

Love the earthy tones, the detail of the decaying concrete stairs. Such wonderful contrast with the gorgeous long hair cat sitting there apparently unaware of how he stands out against the background.

yo,Poe!...nice to see you pop in again...i should talk since i renewed, but haven't posted in ages...LOL...uh, think your mouse slipped when chose the project unless i am missing something?...concentricity refers to sharing the same center like the circles within circles in patterns on water, and well, you know and i figure your mouse ran amuck!...LOL...

i love your signature darker contrast level here and the dappled light is very appealing...that cat is definitely camo with its surroundings!

maybe i will get back to posting again soon...
hope all is going well with you,gurl...~Shameless

That is a great image, very nice colors and generaly mood of old and ruined...and the cat's colors composed to that! Not sure if that image can be in that category - project but that is not surely something that I critique, not at all, the image is beautiful.
Best regards!

You're right, Rebecca, the cat does blend right in, but I also like your composition of the steps with the shadows on them.

Hi,You are so right about the colors and lighting. This could go in one of those childrens books where you are supposed to find the hidden animal. From the thumbnail I never saw the cat so wondered about the title. Nice to see you posting again. Del.
