You sure did! Looks great. Warm and inviting. Now, don't you think that looks better? More 'real' instead of like a photograph? There's bonuses to being an insomniac you know I have a shoot in 4 hours and I'm *still* not tired....

Very cool the way the vanishing point follows the Rule of Thirds. Extremely effective and a principle so many photographers overlook!

Oh no, John - no cop outs, lol! You decide which images you like. I am writing the verbage right now for submission guidelines. As you have so many excellent images, consider throwing them all out and see what sticks? I'll critique them and let you know my thoughts on saleability, categories, etc. Please read the guidelines as they are very specific and let me know if you need help with any of it. I have a half terrabyte server so you can upload huge images which ca then be rendered. Note that for print purposes, images must be 300dpi. My new image drive starts in the New Year but I want fresh new images for clients to browse. You may also have your own pages at my site if you wish. Regards, Graham

For your purposes, Eb, that's all you need to know and PS Elements works just fine. You can actually separate every pixel if desired Yes, working from the original would produce better results. Remember, ALL cameras can only give a 'representation' of a scene as they have such a limited dynamic range (compared to our eyes) - the photographer has to alter the image post-shot to accurately illustrate the actual scene. This demo here shows this concenpt clearly I feel?

Here's the commercial version ........ see the difference? On this, I adjusted all three layers - shadows, highlights and midtones and changed the time of day back a few hours for clarity and depth in the sky.

Eb, the flotsam I removed. The wildlife I shot. Sorry - I had a clear shot Just a variation to give you some ideas. I spent YEARS (literally) learning how to critique my own images and it is VERY hard to do. I cover this in my new courses and show photographers how to go about 'maximizing' images, particularly for visual impact and commercial sale. If you're interested in selling some of your images, please visit my website as I am now accepting submissions for the stock library. My PS CS2 analyses of this image came up as 'perfect' by the way, so you go the tones, contrast and values spot on! I did darken the clouds for detail and made 100+ other little changes - I doubt you'd be able to see them, though. There's two main ways to exhibit this image - the way you had it which is "ooh", and the other which is "whoa!" Geddit? Now, which is which ....

OK, Ralf - you have *got* to get some daylight! Great composition but quite dark on my monitor (Adobe calibrated). Bottom left all but blacks out. A great scene though - clearly you live near docks for these derricks to be so prolific?

Rat - hmm, definitely confusion here as RAW (whatever format it is) has nothing to do with any of this. Sounds like there's some terminology mixup here...or you have an incorrect RAW plug-in? Graham.

Eb - unless you are a commercial photographer who sells images for a living and needs the quality there is ZERO point in shooting RAW images. Besides, there are so many standards, I feel that RAW will disapear and TIFF (the industry standard) will prevail. RAW images do NOT 'fix' photos that were bad to start with and have nothing to do with exposure. They do allow adjustment of white balance however (the main reason to shoot raw images). RAW images also offer histograms and require an in-depth knowledge of the intricacies of the technical aspects of photography and histograms. I will post the details of this RAW confusion I see here on my website so everyone can understand how to do this and how to save JPG files for maximum inpact and with minimum loss (yes, it *can* be done!: 0 I also cover this in my lectures. Work in PSD, save in TIFF, and post in JPG. Golden Rule I will show you how to save lossless JPG files...

I was wondering how you feel shooting in RAW would be of help? This seems to be a common misconception
