The way the ground plane changes angle in relation to the viewer makes for an interesting chage in the patterns.

Incredible drama. The tones ae so smooth, and the composition is perfect.

Well, I find this shot much more appealling that the fence picture. The first thing I find appealling is the subject. The flowers blanketing the desert floor, becoming a blur of yellow at the horizon is a truly worthy subject. The second thing I find appealling is the balance of the elements--principly the flowers and mountains and sky. I also think the lines of the picture, converging below the flower; they help to reinforce the balance.

Now I do think the phenomenom of the flowers blanketing the desert floor might be better shown from a higher point of view.

Ian,

Thanks for the comment. I am looking at mountains across a large lake. The overcast is very low, and is almost penetrated by the sun at the far shore.

I like the composition of the single element set against the field of repeated patterns.

I love the shot...the bands of color...the rich lighting...the contrast of cool and warm colors.

The image has nice color and contrast, but the title, which includes perspective, leads to what I find troubling about the photo. The vanishing point of the fence line is about a third of the way into the frame, but the prominent post in the center of the frame stops your eye dead. All the interest is really in the right half of the picture. I think that cropping the left 1/4 of the frame would dramatically improve the composition.

Very nice architectural composition. I like the juxtaposition of the sky and building, and the comparison of the mottled colors and textures.

Great example of patterns repeating at different scales. That, along with the pastel colors and person for scale, really make this a wonderful shot.

Such intense blue. It reminds me of the jelly fish room at Monterey Bay. Keep up the good work.

Larry,

I appreciate your comment. I too am quite surprised that this received an award. I would not say that it is one of my best photos--though I do like it. But of course I like minimalist art as well, and this photo does create the graphic abstract that I have been experimenting with for some time now. My personal favorites are True Blue, Abstract in Blue, Weighting, and Morning Fog (the one on page 4).

I am hoping to find the time to "redevelop" Horizon from the raw file, and make a print that is truly worthy of an award.

Regards,
David

Another wonderful abstract composition. The static field of blue contrasting with the tension created by the ladder and the man is superb.

Wonderful composition. Avery strong focus set against the static but powerful field. I am sure Siza would like this picture.
