I had opportunity to meet Mr. Callahan while he lived in Atlanta. He was in very poor physical shape, and died a few months later.
He was a very quiet "little" man-you would notice or think that he was a great photographer.
And early in my career I met MINOR WHITE, PHILLIPE HALLMAN AND ALFRED EISTAESANT ( spelling?) They are all gone now.

Hi Chuck,

Harry Callahan? He was a strong influence on me. I bought his 'Color 1941 - 1980' when it came out - the first book of photographs I ever paid a serious amount of money for.

Best wishes,
Helen

I am giving you a seven for following reasons: First, your photo is great. Reminds me of the late HARRY CALLAHAN'S work.
Also, your use of a really great camera and Film.
Thanks for your comment on Forums about Nikon.

"Graden Notebooks" Ah, yes. Oops.

Thanks for the kind comment Dan, and yes, I confess. I'm the Helen Bach on photo.net and the Helen B on APUG.

Best wishes,
Helen

Helen, this is a wonderful shot in your "Graden Notebook" :')

Are you the same Helen Bach that posts on Photo.Net about 2-stage fixer?

Cheers!

I like this Helen. Maybe could do with alittle bit more exposure at the bottom of the frame. Nothing like a chip butty 't fair. regards John

I like this one. it looks like Theater Scene with snow effect. and if I could select a music for this scenem, I may use Spreading Wings from Gabriel Yared (City of Angels OST)

I'm in agree with you about the nature is beauty and some times subtle, but the thing that make it beauty or subtle, is our mind, our thoughts and our vision. "the nature of beauty is impossible to capture, or define, or record, or analyse", but is possible to understand. If not, we may not to understand what is Beauty and what is Bold, smells good or bad, and so on. But in general, I'm in agree with you. at last we have to "be as faithful as possible".
Regards,
Mohammad Porooshani

Thanks for the comment Mohammad, and thanks for the alternative view - that's an interesting interpretation. The roses are dusty, faded and long dead. The 'revelation' in this series is supposed to be that the nature of beauty is impossible to capture, or define, or record, or analyse. So I'm trying to be as faithful as possible to what I see as the subtle beauty (or non-beauty) of the objects and present them in a way that does not conform to a conventional ideal. I don't want them to be noticeably unconventional either.

Best wishes,
Helen

Very Nice Helen,
I love floral photography too, but I'm not talented at all . check for some color manipulation. I know, you mean your colors, but I have my mind.

These are beautiful still lifes (both 1 and 2) and great work with your dof and shutter speed -- amazing clarity, lighting and wonderful tones (I've also used Portra and like it for its slightly softer tonality). Congrats!

Very nice perspective. Makes me glad I live in the south! Your work is good- isn't a Nikonos an underwater camera mostly? I have friends in NY and always wonder what everyday is like for them. You share it so well!

Real- I like the everyday realism here. Seems so brutal and cold, but the guy in the wheelchair seems to have some friends to warm the way. Interesting perspective. Well done.

A part of the country I have yet to get to.

Not sure if I want to now - it looks too cold to me!

An excellent image of shape and light.

Congrats on the award.

A gorgeous capture, Helen. The strong curves are both seductive and forbidding. Great tone and composition. I'm so glad it made the front page as I missed it the first time!

A very emotive landscape from a wonderful part of the country. You've captured it very nicely with that threatening looking sky. Congrats on getting this on the front page.
