Hi Tracy, the bright colour of this image comes firstly by using backlighting, allowing the sun to shine through the leave. Secondly, i did a few minor enhancements in Photoshop (the then CS3) - I increased the contrast slightly to darken the surrounding leaves in the shadows, applied an unsharp mask (slight - not to oversharpen) and did a minor adjustment to the saturation in order to strengthen the green, red and yellow (beware for oversaturation because you will loose detail very easily in the reds and yellows especially).

The emphasis on the PS enhancements is on MINOR. Its easy to overdo it and one then losses the natural feeling of the shot. All the PS settings above can be done in most of the modern DSLR's if you go into your menu. Myself, i prefer to do these in Nikon Capture NX or PS-CS4 because you have so much more control over the process. I also do ALL my photos in RAW - the level of detail is just so much more than in a Jpeg straight out of camera - it is more time consuming though and I recommend you apply a well thought out indexing and storage system and apply it vigorously (as well as selecting the best shots, as its so easy to overburden yourselve with too many photos of the same thing.

hope this helps!

Joggie

Ive only just gone digital myself and have so far only had partial success in capturing such gorgeous colour images, do you use photoshop to enhance or is it all within your camera settings? My new camera has soooo many settings and buttons its hard to fathom ever figuring it all out! :)

Hi Eb, great to hear from you again! Yes i am still uploading but at a slow pace. I am still busy here in Tete, northern Mozambique and one of the main problems is electricity supply and hence internet connectivity - its a privelage here! I will watch out for your uploads! Regards, Joggie

Hi Joggie! I followed my impulse to check to see if you resumed posting images! It is gratifying to see that you are again showing us images of your world and vision! As for me, I may be encouraged to upload once more! I enjoy this filigree silhouette, monochromatic with a red accent. It is brilliant!

Yes, there is nothing like the peace & tranquility that comes with sitting in a small craft on still waters...which is so well portrayed here.
