i used a light green filter and waited for the sun to be at a level where it didn't overpower any colors. it was also a failry overcast day.

i love this photo
a basketetball hoop in a field is so out of the ordinary and you capture this unusual scene so effectively through your choice of composition, tones, and use of grain.

all you need is a black backdrop, a lit cigarette or an incence stick (which ever smells beter to you haha) and a flash.
now when you take this photo make sure you have a light switch handy csaue you're going to want to knwo where your smoke is positioned within your viewfinder. the light from your flash will outline the smoke and leave the backgorund black.
if you want to get different colored smokes then apply a filter to either your lens or use a filter for your flash. or cheat and go onto photoshop i suppose haha.
the only tricky thing is getting the smoke to do what you want it to do. the slightest breeze will mess up the smokes formation.
