What a superb pin sharp exceptional tone image! I just love it!!! Beautifully presented. High commendations! Macro shots of this standard are often so difficult to achieve. You have done far more than merely "achieved". This is art.
Warm Wishes, Aniko

Hi Taran Wasnt that hard to shoot as the dragonfly was quite cold and just sat for some time while I snapped away with studio flash! As for film, this was probably one of the last film shoots I did. Have been shooting with an EOS 1Ds and 5d for quite a while now. I'm over film Thanks for your fantastic comments. Cheers

Nice dragonfly, great subject isolation. Bonus for using film... macros are hard enough when I have hundreds of frames to spare on twitchy dragonfly's... but Velvia! Mad skills.

The moons dead easy. Its just like shooting in daylight. Try 1/125th of a second at f8 and see how you go Should be somewhere around that setting. Getting a shot like this is next to impossible. Its a combination of two shots, taken one after the other. The first exposure was for the moon and the second for the trees. I pasted the moon in and carefully deleted segments of the moon to reveal the branches!! And thats all I'm saying.

Hi Brad I found the dragonfly on a post outside the building where I work. It was around 7.30 am and a really cold morning at that. The dragonfly wasnt able to fly at that time due to the cold, so I brought it into the studio and it literally sat in that position for about 30 minutes. You can tell that its alive as its supporting itself on its legs. Usually if the insect is dead or snap frozen the legs tend to curl in on themselves. I have had some negative comments saying that the insect has been photoshopped in. But I can assure you that isnt the case. I did do some poor photoshopping of the background in an attempt to darken the area around the wings. But due to my excitement (yes even after 28 years I sometimes do get excited by a photo)I posted the snap before I checked it on a decent monitor!!! After I finished I took it back out to the same location and it shot off instantly. Cheers and thanks for commenting.

Super super strong! This shot really gives one a sense of the potential energy pent-up in this dragonfly. Moving yet standing still! Powerful ! Sal P.S. Checkout mine if you have the time. http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=779104
