Yoshiyuki,

:)

I knew that ship was familiar! It came to San Francisco years ago with several other tall ships.

Nice Yoshiyuki!

That was the angle I was trying to get when I was there!

Did you shoot from the ship?

Terry

Rob,

I played with the D3 and D300 in Shibuya at the Nikon Gallery and fell in love with the D3. $5200 for the d3 though, Doh! The speed of the D3 is blinding. That 3" monitor is awesome(on both cameras)!

I really don't want another DX camera. DX works well with sports and wildlife but not architecture and landscape. I used a 14-24 while in Japan and just wasn't very satisfied. I like using the 24-85 and 16mm Fisheye on my F100 so much better.

I know a D3 or D300 is in my future though.
Cheers,
Terry

How do you like your D300?

Nice angle and night shot.

Where's this at? Oh, it's Tokyo. Which part? I was just there for 2 weeks.

Met Yutaka (member from Chiba) at the Narita airport. We should organize if we're gonna be around the same place around the same time!

I should've gotten that 10.5. I brought a 12-24 f4 not quite wide enough sometimes.

You can see some of my images in my portfolio and blog.

Cheers,
Terry

Yutaka,

Nice tight shot of bamboo!

I wish I had a chance to go to Kyoto while I was there this time. We'll get together next time I'm there.

The background is busy. When shooting Folsom St I usually have more control of the subjects but in Harajuku there is a language barrier. So I make the best of hand gestures and thank them after a few images. The youth of Harajuku are a dedicated lot and dress hardcore as you can see.

Here's the original image with base adjustments. I tweeked tones, contrast and hues with Photoshop Lightroom. Did more work in Photoshop CS3 with layers, curves, masks, cloning, lens blur and some healing. And finally selectively sharpened with Nik Sharpner.

Send me an email any time; my address is on my profile.

Cheers,
Terry

Terry,

Thanks for the compliments and taking the time to look at my images.

You should come to SF to check out Folsom St Fair sometime. You'll meet lots of interesting people!

Terry,

The fashion is all hers. The Harajuku area is the spot in Tokyo where the fashion conscious meet to show off.

Set up? The shot or the image treatment?

Terry

Sebastian,

I just got back from Japan and did not get all the nightshots I wanted due to weather or being stuck on the train on the way to the location. :(

Here's a sample from the trip.

Thank you Sascha.

It was a waiting game for the changing color display of the ferris wheel. It was an interesting effect that I got with the long exposure.

Shirley,

Her and her sister were at the temple to mark their special birthdays(There are 3 ages in a young Japanese persons adolescence that are specially observed). They were so cute/pretty in their kimonos.

Yutaka,
Thank you for the critique.

I'll be arriving at Narita on the 23rd on flight 11 of Signapore airlines. It's supposed to arrive at 5:55.

I'll be staying in Kanagawa but spending a lot of time in Tokyo.

My e-mail is in my profile and I hope to meet you soon!

Cheers,
