A good composition. Including the fence in the background is an excellent idea. I am interested in the body language the photograph communicates. Everyone is covered and inhabiting the smallest possible space. very good, very sympathetic work . . .

Best wishes,
--George

What a beautiful child captured in such a tender moment. Your commentary goes far to explain the humanity of so many of your pictures.

Best wishes,

Pankaj,

This is too extensive a subject to cover in a post. But basically, you want to get your scans a bit darker, with more detail in the highlight areas.

Then you can select particular areas and use them with adjustment layers, or simply create new layers and use different blending modes for effects.

great work Pankaj. If i dont see the bottom part of picture and just focus on Taj mahal in the black border it becomes a fabulous picture !!
In such pictures the target object should always be most prominent then the people around.

Angelo, these are negative scans, how do u work with layers to bring about details? Do u need to cut various areas into different layers and then selectively apply curves/levels?

This stare is even better. Very powerful, and so many details from this man's full life in his face.

The sharpness is much better in this one.

You ought to retouch that scratch across the frame.

Thanks for your marvellous comments, Pankaj.

Very nice patterns, Pankaj.

But you have to do something to control those highlights. Is this a scan of a print? If so, it needs to be printed better, withs some burning in.

If a negative scan, you need to work with some layers to bring back some detail.

Beautiful portrait.

Very powerful smile and a good commentary, Pankaj. Excellent documentary work.

I like this old-style documentary photo and don't mind the technical failings: the expression is so well captured and framed we don't have time to be distracted by scratches.

Pankaj great expression captured on the Rickshaw walla's face. But I see a lot of scratch marks on the photo. These may have come from the negative itself if it is damaged or from the scanner bed. You can use photoshop to correct this. Another great tool is a free software from polaroi called the PDSR or the Polaroid dust and scratch removing software. This photo will look musch better without those dust and scratch marks. All the best. Keep clicking.

Hye Giovanni!
thanx for ur comments.....
Not to defend my picture, you can anyday have your own opinion but given a chance there's very little that i wd change in this picture.........my subject is well lit, he has been captured with clarity......colors have come well....the clutter in terms of other people just gives away a little bit about the ambience without which there wouldn't have been any idea of the chaos that surrounded this man when i took that picture......perhaps i also wanted to register that in this frame...........the other similar frames in the series have that quality of composition which you indicate here, but somehow i feel they don't attract more than a glimpse from anybody around here.....i guess the no. of comments on each picture on the similar theme testify my views..

Hye Ken!!
Well whenever i look at those feets, they feel like very lifeless as if they belong to a man who died a while ago...........that's the reason.....more than human limbs to me they signify dead poles........

By the way ken i learnt you have a web site on tea of your own..........What do u actually do ? Hey i am a designer 2.so if you or somebody else needs something to be designed....i would be glad to provide my services...

That is a stern stare ! I would have cleared the place immediatly.

Pankaj,

These people shots are always tricky and uncomfortable. People tend to get angry.

I tried once and told myself since - Never again !! Thats that end of my Paparazi carrier.

regards,
ken

Rather tired feet ! Must have been working too hard.

And by the way - they need a good wash too !

Pankaj,

I wonder why did you call it 'stilts'.

ken.
