Great action shot, Pat! I like the way you've caught the ball just leaving his hand and the look of concentration on the pitcher's face.

Subhranil - Many thanks. I have found that this lens actually lends itself for some nice portraits...even though it is too long to use most of the time.

Eb - I pretty much "wore out my favors" with my wife over the D3, but my son is playing varsity football the next two years and this was definitely the choice. As far as lenses, I did get a Sigma 18mm to 35mm f/2.8 for wide angle work. The Nikkors are better, but this was a good buy. I have been thinking ahead for after my kids are out of the house.....maybe the Sigma 300mm - 800mm (for wildlife). I'm dreaming.

Eb - I have the camera set for "normal" noise reduction. That has been the most fantastic part of the camera....A 1600 ISO on my old D200 was not as clean as the D3 at 6400.

I have taken similar photos with the 400mm lens (portrait-like) and the DOF is really nice.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Now, I go back and see when you first posted with this great camera, Pat! You have owned this camera for a while! I've only had my D700 for a tad over a month. I can see how this sensor is a perfect choice for your type of work! For landscapes, the sensor has certainly not disappointed me. It is very versatile! One could almost dispense with the tripod! You have that wonderful 400mm., which I can not aspire to - unfortunately! I did add the 24-70 and the 14-24 to my kit. Have you added any lenses?

Very beautiful, Pat! A great demonstration of what can be done with this camera! Do you process the noise in camera to jpeg? I shoot raw and process noise using Nik software's Dfine 2.0 in PS. I have not bothered to compare this to either Nikon's in camera or Capture NX2. So I am wondering about your experience.

Well done, Pat! Throughout the series, you have balanced the ISO well with camera settings for an enjoyable and quality output! You are not afraid of shooting wide open and that has worked well in this series.
