Lots of mood in this classic landscape Kes (hehe...). Great image using the dark dramatic light optimally and creating a great composition out of a seemingly uninteresting surroundings - Well taken!

Hi Dave, thanks! I really believe the Rolleicord/film combo deserves the credit for that "old" look you see. :)

This shot has a very timeless feel to it, Kes! From the dress of the subject to the b/w tones, it reminds me of an old time woodcutting shot. Well done!
Dave.

I like the way he's semi-occluded by the tree, just like another tree might be. He stands up straight, just like a tree. He looks like he belongs there.

Hi, Kes! Without reading others' comments I might not have noticed the change in crop! I think the mood is not changed by it because I feel it is inherent in the point of view, depth of field, tonality and the shapes. 'Though you are right that a sense of presence is more felt than seen!

Yes, exactly right, Andre, I'm glad you saw that. Apparently the crop was a little too tight in the previous version to be easily recognized...although still "felt", perhaps.

The change certainly is subtle Kes.
But I did notice someone just entering the scene from the left hand side. :) Am I right?
Same dark mood,
Andre

Hi Kes,
We are a few thousand miles apart, but I know exactly what you mean when you talk about feeling that "sense of history" Abandoned, mines, farms, trucks and equipment just ooze with that old time feeling. As you know, some of my favourite work is with images that I've taken of deep woods and abandoned cars and trucks. Photographs taken of these present and historical subjects have a special mood and aura all there own.

Thanks Eb! "evocative"! That's high praise! :) It is one of my favorite places to pass through...but the only time I go there is after cutting a load of firewood lower on the mountain...so I'm usually too tired to mess with cameras.

Thanks Andre! It is a wonderful place. Very secluded, with an old, old overgrown mining road (it is in the photo) that follows what I feel is an older trail up into the mountains.

These places give me a sense of history, a feel of the people that have passed through over time.

I've reposted this with a subtle crop change.
