Superb quality light and colors ! I guess, it was a grad ND filter.
Are you happy with the 5D ?

Hi Rob, I am well, but quite busy job... Not much time for parallel posting, I returned to PN, my old home site. A bit activity on flickr (carsten2436), UF is not for me. See the comment above, it is abuse, but was set to poor by the admin

Hallo Ralf,

Thank you all, for your thoughts ! Adam, I guess this is my best effort so far, I was lucky to pass this scene in the right moment with camera/ tripod at hand

Wonderful light and colors. A slight crop from the sky and a leveled horizon would make it perfect, IMO

Beautiful light, nice winter landscape. I like the fact that the snow is unspoiled (except around the hut. Probably your own steps ?)

Nice feeling of motion. A good example for the saying "bad weather, good photos"...
I would keep the color palette a bit more on the "cold" side, and would fix the slightly concave curved horizon (should be straight, or even a bit convex; nearly all wide zooms have some barrel distortion)

Thank you Shelby ! Yes, it was probably the most photogenic morning of the last months, fog and hoarfrost, but quite cold :-)

This is definitively very good, enigmatic. Perfectly composed, my only comment would be on B&W tones: why did you chose such a soft and almost highkey B&W ? I think about a darker, more contrasty version

I have no real idea how this would look with more DOF, in comparison. Would be interesting. I guess you chose the shallow DOF intentionally, and it looks definitively interesting, different (as it is en vogue in the macro world to go for as much DOF as possible...)

I like the "old style", rusty color palette. The soft tones and dreamy effect dont fit very well to this motif, IMO. I guess you wanted to get the look of an old, worn print ?

Thank you all, again. Ameed, if you ask for my rating 17-40/4L and 10-22 (I meant, the declaration of 10-22 as lens on 5D here was a formal mistake): the 17-40/4L is a bit better in sharpness and contrast than the 10-22, not much. It has a lot more vignetting than the 10-22, and more barrel distortion @17 mm. But there is no attractive alternative, except maybe the Zeiss 21 Distagon $$$

What does the foreground contribute to the image ? The lines there are not strong eonough IMO, they dont act well as lead-in. The tree group is nicely placed, after a crop from the bottom (a low horizon would focus attention on the beautiful sky)

Very nice light and colors, the reed obscuring the mill is not optimal IMO. What about a different camera point, if you come here again ?

Would be really interesting to see another shot with low sunlight, light and shadow would put emphasis on the land grooves and increase the impact of the foreground. This is not so effective in noon light, and I would crop from the bottom here

One of the best photos of this motif I have seen. Surely a good choice of the elves - congrats to BIP. BTW, what does color contribute here ? I mean, why not a B&W, the compository and aesthetic quality is high enough ;-)

Thank you all- Ahmed (and Joe), the 10-22 was a mistake :-) I sold it together with the 300D against the 5D, my wide angle is now the 17-40/4L. Alas, more barrel distortion and vignetting, but the 5D outweighs that

Cheers

Carsten
