Thanks JD. It is a lot of work to set up a website from scratch, but I think it is ultimately more satisfying than using an automated or off-the-shelf design.
As far as this photograph is concerned, it is not really intended as high "art". I see it more as a humourous street scene. But it's a very busy scene, making it hard to get the cool policeman to stand out against everything else that's going on (including those buses on the flyovers!) I think the HDR helps this, adding a hint of comic-book drawing to it.
At the end of the day, this was a grab shot that turned out rather grey and dismal. HDR brought it to life. That's the view from my side, but as always your views are much appreciated and are a great help.

Hi John, I see you excellent webpage, perhaps someday I try one myself about this picture not crazy with postprocess, I love HDR but think it must be a subtle work, love the deep reds and composition but do not like the verticals (not related to HDR, I know), grey tone of the sky and the red halo around of the street-lamp tka care mate.....txules

Oh, you're funny John! UF Admin and ME? Coincidence. In the meantime...Yurp? Hell, the jokes just write themselves, don't they? And you call this an "economic blip"? Yeah...you ride it out...see you in 5 years! LoL! Keep working the HDR. I like the lack of need for multiple shots when you shoot in RAW. )

Wow, today on UF we had a visit from the Admin and the great DDC! (Is there any connection... snigger, snigger!)
I was in NYC in November but I'm now back in Yurp, sitting out the economic blip. Gives me lots of time to learn new things. I'm still experimenting with this HDR stuff but it is surprising how much detail it can extract from even a single RAW image.
Thanks for dropping by, AJ

WHOA!!!
Hey Johnny! You here? WOW! Dude! This is SOOO not a drop of milk and egg dye (not that they weren't great, but I can't do them so I'll be making fun of them for a bit)! I absolutely love the lighting here! Your HDR technique is ROCKIN' this shot!
Swing this way...I'll show you the roof of the building next to LAX! )

Thanks Keith. I didn't know a thing about HDR when I took this last November. I've managed to get this detail out of a single exposure, and wonder how much better it would be if I had taken 3 or 5 bracketed exposures.
BTW, the flights were cheap - it was the accommodation that was the killer!
