This one I missed whilst I was away from UF. The scene is quite amazing with it's myriad of lights and the most fantastic clarity achieved with HDR. I love that wedge of greenish tone pushing in amongst the hotter fiery lights, very effective and eyecatching. Well done to you my dear AJ, great photography. My very best wishes to you as always......Ray

Many thanks for your comment, Carrie - I always appreciate hearing what people really think.
I do in fact have shots where the policeman is the main subject. I do not see this shot as particularly artistic, but rather as a demonstration of what can be pulled out of a rather drab street-scene - in the original there is a harsh contrast between the light and shadow, and overall the image is rather grey.

Many thanks, Ray. I am not a fan of such street "art", but it is true that this scene would be rather harsh without it.

Thanks Doyle - I am still surprised by how much detail that is not immediately apparent can be pulled out of a raw image.

Hi AJ....I'm back again, at least for a while. An excellent monochromatic composition. I love the graffiti from Boris it does 'brighten' up the austerity of the concrete staircase. For me though, I just love those wonderful skeletel trees. Well done to you my good friend. I'll be catching up over the next few days and posting sometime next week. My very best wishes to you as always.....Ray

i think your title makes this shot more interesting than it would have otherwise been. i really like the striking and rich red of the truck but i agree that it is the centre point of the picture rather than the policeman. a zoom on his expression or more focus on him would make this better i feel. i also agree re the cropping more tightly to the truck - the buildings distract. i hope you see as serious critique - but from a novice - so purely my opinion! cwx

Thanks Gary. Though concrete, the staircase is rather grand. It doesn't see much use even though it is in the centre of the city - there is a six lane highway at the top and the river behind my back.
AJ
PS. Exactly that - I like the contrast. How come? Many years ago a job took me to Warsaw and, well, you know how it goes, you meet a girl and... As for Tarifa, well, the windsurfing is no good in Warsaw.

This is not at all what I thought it was from the thumbnail (then again my eyes..) it's an interesting study of the three elements, the ugliness of the concrete and the beauty of the trees and the creativity of the graffiti. It all comes together very well with the resolution and tonal range you've given it. Regards, Gary
PS I have to ask, how come Tarifa and Warsaw (chalk and cheese)?

For mr, the redness of the truck is what stands out, so I'd suggest cropping at the truck's highest point. And for New York, everone seems so nonchalant, which I also find appealing. Regards, Gary
