Hi Chris
I love the mood, the grey sky, and the color of the water.
But let me please respectfully submit that I would like to see the top of the mast. I like the foreground, maybe just back up a bit and show the mast in full.
Just my opinion.

Awesome display of the forces of mother nature vs. man. Excellent image.
Question: According to your "about" you were using a 28-90 mm lens. The image was taken with at a focal length of 45 mm. This means you were extremely close.
I am guessing you were on the lead boat and he is positioning to steal your wind in order to become the lead boat....

i love this, I just moved to newport and though I will be here for a short period of a few months want to try to take as many landscapes as possible..hopefully i find some cool spots like this one!

nice shot and composition.
I like how the boat is leaning at an angle and how you framed it with the staight horizon..
The rough water and the cloudy sky go well together.

Hi Dave,
You will regret it if you don't go out in Rhode Island... I know your schedule might not allow it... but if you can get out, I would really recommend it. Although, this isn't once in a lifetime opportunities either - all of these coastlines and lighthouses will be here for some time.
