Posible es todo aquello que puede ser, que puede existir, que existe o que puede suceder.
Podemos considerar el caso de una, de las dos o las tres o las cuatro cosas juntas o separadas. Entre ellas existen estas relaciones:
Lo que existe, por el mero hecho de existir, es posible y al mismo tiempo es real. Antes de existir era posible; por tanto el posible era (algo); por lo mismo ahora hay, son, posibles muchas cosas aunque en el momento presente no existan.
De entre todas las cosas posibles las hay que pueden existir y las hay que no podrán pasar a la existencia en las condiciones actuales de la existencia posible, aunque teóricamente mantengan su posibilidad. (Pegaso, el caballo con alas, puede existir teóricamente, pero de hecho, en las condiciones actuales, no es posible su existencia). Otras son radicalmente o esencialmente imposibles (el cuadrado redondo).
Si el posible no existía y ahora existe es porque ha sucedido su existencia; lo que supone la existencia previa de las condiciones, las causas, que han producido este suceso en el mundo.
