Cool! I'm looking for your reflection in the mirrors, but it isn't there....:) The feel, capturing the moment in time in a cosy restaurant is very good, a nice and pelasant feel...

Hi Max,

Great metaphore in this photo; it makes the shot for me. The artist walking away from his violin, as well as his open - and abandoned - case with the violin still "warm" has something definite about it, which makes it very strong. Very impressive shot! (no more words needed)

Hi Paul,

Nice touch of subtle erotism and a seductive feel in this photo; passionate, which is, IMO emphasised by the composition. very close and intimate. Great shot!

Hi Leo,

Extremely dramatic photo, with a very powerful atmosphere and feel. The grainy feel, and the tones are exquisit. Very well captured and composed.

Hi Vesna,

Nice distanced portrait, and although the noise is pretty heavy, it's the contrast between this girls' age and the rather mature pose that grabs me in this photo.

Hi Peter,

At least it's more like what I'm used to from you....:) Great shot, very moody, and I especially like the unusual composition, in this case; no room for the sky, which is, IMHO, a very good choice.

Hi Peter,

It seems you have entered a whole new field of photography / imagery... .Nice and minimalistic, but also well captured. Quite effective!

Hi Doyle,

This is a good image, I think. Even though the image quality could be improved upon (what do you use to convert an image to B&W?) I think the feel of this photo makes this shot. A nice composition, and an interesting shot.

Hi Doyle,

I've been looking at this photo for quite some time, and I don't really know what to think. That's not necessarily a bad thing (in most cases it isn't) but that's what I've been thinking about in this photo.

What I like about it:
The even, and non-descriptive background, as well as the v-shaped compostion; drawing the viewers' eye towards the animal. The composition follows the rule of thirds nicely, and and the view its'elf is rather unusual, which I do think is a +.

What I don't like so much:
I think the image quality can be improved upon; the shadows as well as the highlights (lower right) are just a bit too much, and block out the details and definition in those parts. Then, I think the B&W conversion is just a tad rough; the horns blend in with the background, where I think you could easily let them stand out a bit more.

Cheers,

Hugo

:) Thanks Jo; it's not all that complicated, a matter of copy-pasting the right bits and then fiddling about a bit....:)

Hi Galal,

I think the minimalistic, almost perfect geometrical composition is great - it reall ymakes the shot. Also, the tones and image quality are spot on, very well done!

Hi Donatella,

Cool composition, and a very fine presentation. I find the contrast a little bit steep; it affects the perceived image quality....

nevertheless, I think it's a nice shot; good feel and presentation.

Hi Roby,

Very spectacular shot. It does need a bit more contrast (or soft light layer mode in Photoshop....:)), but that's just my preference. I love the feel of this alpine view; the strong winds and the crisp light are awesome!

Hi Annemette,

The feel of a very stormy, and quite unpleasant day at the beach is very well captured. I don't know if it actually was that bad, but the slow shutter does create that impression. A very well composed photo, with the rocks on the left countering the diagonal of the poles on the right. Good shot!

Hi Tim,

Some spots are just screaming to go back to whenever you can.... I remember this location from your photos from a while ago - with a closer POV to the main shoreline; (more to the left, that is). I rather like this, as it presents the viewer with a wider overview. Very good shot.

Hi Sal,

Wide Angle NYC! Very nice! The spherised horizon, and the needle cushion created by the skyscrapers is a pretty cool sight.... And a great way of taking one of the millions of photos taken every year from the ESB out of the ordinary....:) Cool shot!

Hi AJ,

I think the image by itself is very well captured; the level of detail seems to be extremely high, and it's a "neat" image, as in no real disturbances, and a very clean / high image quality - quite impressive!

The contrast does make an interesting theme, and an appealing image, too.

So far only praise; on to the nitpicking. Even though the weather seems to be less than favourable, I still think the grayish hue in the heap of snow in the foreground could use just a tad more brightness. Also, I think boosting the saturation just a notch; especially in the wall on the right might even increase the contrast between the old and the new face.

Anyway, both nits are fairly unimportant, and I think it's a very fine photo.

Cheers,

Hi John,

Apart from the thoughts you placed in your about, which is, IMO the right spirit (or at least one I can relate to), I think the photo matches beautifully.

I love these rugged, wilderness scenes, and the level of details is pretty awesome. I think a little boost in saturation, and perhaps tweaking the levels a bit to make the contrast in the mountain a bit stronger compared to the contrast in the foreground might give the image just a tad more impact, but it's a very good photo as-is, well captured!

Hi Shane,

There are a number of things that add up in this photo; the low level of saturation, the perspective, the peripheral elements in the surrounding, the gesture of the man, as well as the the seemingly haphazards type of shot - snapshot style. It creates a very strong mood, it's almost impossible to not feel sorry for him, even though there's no specific reason to do so...

The bag of groceries in the foreground, the loose - unconnected - wire in the ceiling and the overexposed glare from the window. It makes it a very good character image. Very mature and proficient photo.

Cheers,

MK!

HDR, heh? I've fiddled with it, but it never really landed in my workflow.... But considering the workflow I followed, it might not be such a bad idea....:)

Hi Sal,

Good to hear from you! It's an interesting mix, now you mention it; I hadn't looked at the image that way, but I think it's a pretty good assessment... It's also part of the post-processing, but it was basically as I remember it.

Hi Andre,

It sure was a very early morning, especially in my book...:) I have developed a weakness for squared images, and I notice I'm falling back on medium format cameras more and more ever since shooting this series; the type of composition just feels better, can't really explain it....

Cheers,
