A nice shot Katie. I agree with Gary on the shadows. I you had waited another hour you probably would have had the light filling the valley, which would have given you detail in the trees. It looks like a beautiful area

The toughest thing about Velvia is holding the contrasts of your scene together. The rocks and the sky are at least 2 stops different in exposure. Velvia will give you 1/2 stop latitude, which means that if there is more than 1/2 difference in exposure, you'll lose either your highlights or shadows. In this case you exposed for the sky which worked well, but your rocks are black and detract from the scene. Artie is right in that it is important to go to a place and just sit and watch what happens with the light.
Another idea would be to recompose the scene, so the "black" rocks do not dominate as they do in this shot. Keep shooting, it's a great attempt.

The clouds are very moody. I like the color in the scene. The composition doesn't grab me, maybe it's the dark foreground. I do think it's a nice grab.

It looks like you thought this one out well. I enjoy the dodging for the "halo" effect. Your composition shows depth, especially with the rocks, creating a trail to lead your viewers into the image.

The best way to get better color is to have better light. The "white" sky is tough on color and will make everything look bland. Try morning or late afternoon light, which yields better tonality. A polarizer is a good filter to have in your camera bag. One more thing that could help is using different film. Slide or transparency film will typical yield more saturated colors than print film. Keep shooting and congrats on the new camera.

Mord, this too is great. The reflection was used perfectly. I hope you know this kid, so you can make his mohter happy with this photo.
Trust me, I am just a guy who loves what he does, plus I spend a lot of time looking for locations and get out of bed ALWAYS . The camera I use is a Noblex (2.4cm x 6.6cm), a true panoramic camera. Love it, but like any camera, it has its limitations.

Dawn, this place has a lot of potential. Always check your horizon line. This would be a great sunrise/sunset location. Looks a bit overexposed. Do you have a tripod? If not, get one, it will make you slow down and bring your attention to details in shots. Also a cable release is a must, but don't buy a cheap one, spend around $30 and it will last.

Welcome to Usefilm Kelly. I like the swing very much. The branch in the upper left distracts IMO. I really love you you filled your upper right corner with the line of the clouds, which draws you in nicely.
I wouldn't crop the branch, but rather recompose the scene to not have the branch included in the image.
