Hi Jeff,

Great shot, however just thought I would point out that this bike is not a Harley but is in fact a Yamaha, it is one of thier bikes from the Star range (They look like Harleys) I should know as I have just bought the 2005 Dragstar 1100 and it looks just like this shot from the same angle, also you can see the Yamaha "Tuning Fork" logo just above the speedo needle.

That said, this is still a great shot, it is nice and sharp and the crop is great, nice.

I'm going to be taking some pics of my new bike this weekend and will post them on usefilm so look out for those.

Cheers - Bob

It's quite ironic I have just come home from taking photos on a golf course in Pretoria where I got some nice pics of a friendly little meerkat, I get home, log on to usefilm.com to see what's new and low and behold, this pic is the "Featured Critique of the Day" - great shot, it just embodies the little buggers, my shots pale in comparison, fantastic..........

Hi Alison - thanks for your comment, actually it was taken at the new aquarium at uShaka in Durban - I was there in Dec and got some great pics, I'll post more on usefilm. If you go to Durbs (I presume you're in CT) uShaka is well worth a visit....

OK so here's the options:
1. don't post it, so therefore not get to share it with any fellow photographers on this site
or
2. post it with the writing on to prevent people from stealing the image for thier own use but still sharing it with people on this site

Ummm.... I think I'll go for option two.

Think about it logically if I had to post this pic for all and sundry to use as they wish, how would I ever make any money out of it????

Besides you can clearly see the writing on the thumbnail. If you don't like it - don't look at it

Hi Patrick, unfortunately it happens all too often that these types of images end up on other websites and in brochures without the consent of the photographer thus the writing is often unfortunately necessary

great shot, I love the innocence, I can still (sort of) remember those carefree days, this is the kind of shot of that I like to see hanging on walls in family homes, not the usual stiff formal family portraits that people still seem to like so much

this is a nice shot but it looks as though there was a lot of dust on the neg when it was scanned, other than that, I like it....

I like it, I really like this shot, scratch that, I love it. This is the kind of family portrait I would blow up and hang on my wall any day(rather than the boring old, dull, typical type family portrait, damn, I hate those). This really is a fantastic idea and you have pulled it off perfectly......

I live in South Africa and appreciate the need for this kind of sex education - yes it is a comical picture, I mean how often is it that you get to see a woman with a condom in her mouth about to go down on a wooden "penis" however, comedy aside, Aids is a serious problem in this part of the world and I applaud the people and organisations who organise these kind of sex education projects in the townships and rural areas.

As for Maciek's comment about the people being so stupid this is totally wrong. I think that if Maciek took the time to visit South Africa you would find that the rural population are generally not stupid but are simply just uneducated. You must remember that they have been living according to thier own culture and beliefs for centuries and have only recently (the last 150 years or so) been introduced to western culture. In most African cultures, the more children you have, the richer you are as they will look after you when you are old (almost like a pension plan - more kids = more money) therefore contraception has never been a factor for concern. The general consensus is that if you take away a man's power to reproduce then you are in essence taking away his manlyhood. This myth has filtered down to the younger generation and unfortunately is not only true in the rural areas but in the cities and townships too. I have young black educated friends, the kind of guys who have good jobs, nice houses and drive around in fancy cars and yet they still believe that they are surrendering their manhood if a lady asks them to wear a condom - this is the light in which condoms are seen and as a result this kind of education is imperative to preventing aids from becoming more widespread than it already is.

Apart from that, photographywise, this is a great shot, I love the experssion on her face and like the use of DOF to keep her face sharp and her hand and the "penis" slightly blurred, your crop is also spot on - well done - I like this pic a lot - Regards Bob

Great Shot Stuart - considering that you say this is your first attempt, I would say this is an excellent first attempt - your lighting and crop are spot on - would have been even better had the lion made eye contact IMO - however I would be proud to have this shot in my portfolio - have a look at my latest addition "disturbed siesta" It is similar - regards Bob

WOW - I love this shot - almost doll-like the starbursts in her eyes are great - question though - were they done using a star filter when the shot was taken or were they added afterwards in photoshop? either way they really work well - regards Bob

brrr - this shot gave me goosebumps - I used to keep pet snakes as a kid but now, for some reason, they just give me cold shivers - great shot though, my only complaint would be that the lighting on the face is a little harsh and the DOF is slightly off - otherwise I like it a lot - regards Bob

Excellent - when I saw the thumbnail I wondered why you had left the one little boy in colour and the other two in sepia - it was only on opening the full size pic that I realised that the others were not real children at all - great shot, well spotted and very well executed - Regards Bob

This is a nice shot - I would like to have seen even more of the tiger in the shot i.e. its front paws too, however if you wanted to crop it I would go for a very tight crop and eliminate the background alltogether as I have done below - that aside, I think this is a nice shot - regards Bob
