I am so impressed with your creative talent Linn. It is wonderful to see your growth and willingness to stretch. I'm inspired to do so too... I'm in a rut which I'm sure Freeman and SA will elimanate shortly

I really like this image as well as the original. Well seen and executed.

Colorful to be sure but why did you leave the stickers on? Totally distracts from an otherwise colorful fun image.

Moody to be sure... but... don't you just hate that little three letter word!! I feel it to be just a bit dark... my opinion of course.. others may and probably will disagree.

Thank you Pam. After reviewing some of yours I'm flattered. Any helpful tips would be welcome... I'm also borrowing a friends 10D as I always shoot slide film... That is adding another learning curve factor... ugh...

Is having the right pony tail out of the image a bad thing? Should I have not cropped so tight and tried to include it? I know when I review others work (it's how I learn a lot) I like tighter crops and see that even cutting off some of the hat or head is really okay but I'm wanting feedback to help along the way.

So thanks for your kind reply but don't be afraid to dish out the nit picky critique as well.

I like the idea a lot but for my eye it has just to many black holes that I find distracting. Did you have a flash with your that you could have punched in a bit of fill flash?

I'm so glad Linn Currie by way of her Birthday wish directed me to your stunning work. Lovely! All of them. Oh and Happy Birthday!

Now I'll be visiting South Africa in a month (not close to Linn... ... I'll have a layover in London (Heathrowe) for 7 hours... any suggestions? I'm thinking of picking one place to go and doing that with the limited time.

While the blue and green are interesting I'm not sure what your trying to capture here. The almost black trees included on each side seem to detract from the subject... Almost as if they are not needed...

As for the D70... remember it's not the camera that makes good images.. it's the photographer. You have all you need as displayed by your terrific images Linn. Now that said I lust for a 1d markII !!!

I think your going to know how I feel about this image after my spring full of gerbera's.... I LOVE IT!

This is really quite lovely. You just continue to grow as a photographer. You are truly doing some nice work and more importanly developing your OWN style. I can spot a Currie without even seeing a name now. Much like I can spot a Larry White image... That's a really good thing. I like the sweeping lines of this one taking my eye from bottom right to top left. The colors are bold and lush and the details are sharp. Very nice indeed. I wish I had a month in SA and yes it would have been nice to be on your side of your country but oh well only so much time... Maybe another trip.

I was going to email you but I think this is and instructive conversation to have for others... Is it safe to assume then that you like this software better than unsharp mask in PS? Also while we are at it, Neatimage. Have you had issues with it making an image soft? I've heard good and bad things about it. Based on your images I'd say sharpness is not an issue.

Now it's starting to make sense. I have heard about this approach before but have not tried it. I'm guessing that with film I should take my raw scan and do the same thing you are doing. So the last bit of info I'm interested in is. What settings in PS do you typically use on each unsharp mask?

I agree with the secret... I always use mirror lock up and a tripod etc... So are you posting a jpeg or tiff file? Could you be a bit more specific regarding the step down?

Thanks Kim... About the ham and swiss... I'd suggest taking a ham and swiss sandwich on your next shoot and try eating it as you pull the trigger... be careful not to get mayo on your lens of course...
