By comparison to your previous post, this shot has a full range of tones including black.

I like this shot. The compostition is excellent. I find it a little lacking in detail, but my main complaint is the exposure which does not seem to have enough really dark tones in it. I expect to see them along the waterline at the bow of the boat and in the darkest areas of the forest on the shoreline. The large dark frame makes points this out to the detriment of the overall presentation.

The eyes in the foreground mask are so life-like... you'e done a wonderful job to make these stand out. I can almost forget that they are clay, with the shadows that focused on. (8)

I like the b&w so I am biased to this picture. However you could have used a CP filter to get a little bit of contrast on the sky. I like the composition and frmaing. very nice.

I like this one better. The black and white makes it more dramatic IMO.

I liked your colour version, and I also like this one. The black and white frame really works also.

Raymond,

I spent many years in Seattle and had a field day shooting Post Alley. Thanks for bringing back some memories. It really isn't bad for not knowing much about photography.

This is a lovely scene. The calmness and the muted colours work really well.
About the sky on the left - a darker inner border would help IMHO.

What a forlorn scene. Photos like this say so much. Technically speaking, only the sky on the left side is distracting. Show us some more of this type of scene.

The Ashland Lakes are a series of three lakes just East of Mt. Pilchuck here in Washington. At the end of the (5 mile) trail lies Twin Falls.

Once upon a time I worked in a hospital and had the same problem, eventually id read every magazine, eaten all stray candy, removed every stain, and made several hundred photocopies of my face - if only I had a digital camera at the time, my sanity would have been saved, and I could have taken great shots like this, i encourage you to make a series of this, workplace boredom via ccd, hehe

Frankly, I'm not sure what from a mechanics standpoint how to correct this, but I frankly was surprised to see that this was a night time photograph. The lighting combined with the portions of the sky you see at the top give me the sense of an early morning or late afternoon shot. In a situation like this I would have probably attempted to do a pretty wide bracketing of the exposure (say plus and minus one stop). However, that would have required a lot more time to complete and you probably would have lost the pose of the fisherman. Very tough little conundrum. I like the photo, though. Great composition.
