Depends on what you want to call a real photograph. Nothing is done to this that I couldn't do in a traditional darkroom. Push the film for grain and saturate the colors. Ansel Adams used to say pictures are taken, photographs are made.

Nice image, GREAT use of DOF

About his job, if its so great how come he has to be up a dawn every day? Doesn't seem to be anything wearing him out.

I think its kind of interesting actually. The manipulation works for me. I like the fact that i dont really know whats happening. Isnt that what an abstract is supposed to be?

Hello Petersen , a wonderfull shot and the duck position is in the right place , I like the tecture of water in backgroung and the sharp duck , just as personal tast , I would like to take it from a bit down to get more water in the background to give the eyes more space to move . Regards ........ ~~ Hassan ~~

Hi Gary. Glad to see someone else found the same place. The lighting here seems a bit confusing and I'm not too sure all the PS helped. What month did you take this? I usually shhot the desert in the winter because even though the days are shorter, the light (and sky) are so much more interesting. Attached is one of mine from a couple of years ago.

By removing the blue sky, you've essentially taken it to a more 'pure' level of seeing where only the essentials are present. It does look like one of those screens you mentioned. I can even envision this in a tapestry.
