Very well done ... An ND filter would help bring out the details in the shadow areas better IMHO. Regards.

Nicely timed shot Tom! Beautiful colors and composition. I would make only two suggestions, though. Firstly, I would include the reflections of the coconut/palm trees in the frame. And secondly, I'd leave out the one in the left corner out of the frame. I think it is only obstructing and doesn't bring anything new to the photograph.

Good job, and regards,

Chris, thank a lot for your kind words! I am just an upcoming photographer trying to take good photos and learning from everybody else, so for you to say that I have a degree of photographic knowledge to share - it's an honor!

I must admit that I find it hard to divide time between the several websites I post images to, and usually I get the least amount of response from Usefilm. But I will certainly try to rectify the situation.

Thanks once again, and regards, Ashutosh

Hi Collin, thanks for your appreciation!

I didn't use a pink grad - it is a standard Singh-Ray 3-stop hard ND grad.

BTW, how is your search for the lens going? If you are interested, I might want to sell my Sigma. Feel like I need the wider Canon EF-S 10-22.

Thanks and regards, Ashutosh

Christopher, Kambiz, Marian, Ordilei, and Rashid, thanks a lot for your comments!

Turns out that the photograph I wanted to make was about 15 minutes of a walk away, and by the time I would've gotten there, the sun would've already set. So I settled down on a compromise photograph in the backyard of a horse shelter. Go figure!

Laura, Mario, Romy and Annemette, thanks a lot for your appreciation. I was a bit disappointed that day for not being able to shoot much since it was raining a lot. Then it stopped raining, so I thought of shooting the casino for fun. Turns out it is one of my most appreciated photographs!

Dave and Mattia; yeah I never realised that until you pointed it out to me! Thanks!

Kambiz, Roland, Nuri, Romy and Collin, thanks for your comments.

Roland, -10C for me is quite comfortable, we're used to -40C here in Montreal

Hi Debarshi, thanks for your comments and appreciation. To photograph the ghats and the valleys, a 3-4 day jaunt to Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani should be appropriate. You can visit the Mahabaleshwar downtown, they have an amazing tourist map for sale, really gives you the birds eye-view perspective of the entire place and all the points in question. From Mumbai, it might be a two hour drive to get to Mahabaleshwar during winter (In the monsoons, the entire place is shut off due to landslides and cloud bursts - the place gets 5-6 meters of rainfall each year). Also expect prices of everything to triple or quadruple during summer.

Hi Collins,

Thanks for your appreciation!

About the Sigma F2.8, it really depends on what you want to use it for. For landscape, one can certainly get a wider lens with smaller apertures (you don't need the constant F2.8 there). On a 1.6x crop camera, it is 28-85mm, so not as wide as I would like it to be. It is not future proof either, since it's only for APS-C sized sensors.

However, for portrait shooting, it is very good. The zoom could've been higher, though. With a digital camera, one doesn't have much luxury of replacing lenses in the field at will - dust, rain, etc. are serious issues.

OTOH, it is a very fast lens, and I don't really have much to complain about it - other than the fact that there is a bit of softness in the corners at F2.8 - something standard with most constant aperture fast lenses.

The focus has always been consistent, and it is indeed worth all the money. Provided you use it for what it is intended to do

Regards, Ashutosh
