I've been trying to get a good shot of a Great Blue Heron for a long time. Well captured and well named.

In the conversion from film to digital, either a scan of the photo or the negative, the image gets 'soft'.I have no doubt that the print is great. There are several good tutorials on the net that describe this situation and what is done to correct it. I had this situation pointed out to me when I first started posting on usefilm, did my reading and experimented with it.
After a while I could see the improvement in the clarity of my posted shots. If you run thru my portfolio you can see how from the beginning to now how the clarity of the images change.
Do an internet search for Unsharp Mask. You'll get more info than you can stand. If I can help
any more just comment back.

Dana,
Thank you for your comment. I agree this could've been sharper I am still working on my manual focusing skills sometimes when photographing wildlife I get too antzy and click without focusing enough. I have tried using my auto focus function recently and I find that sometimes the camera doesn't necissarily focus on what I wanted it to. I will keep working on it.
Thanks again,
~Cheri

Nice shot, good composition.
Now I'll get in trouble, could use a bit of sharpening.

Thank you Khaled I thought including the grass in the foreground would give the viewer an idea of how close I was. :)
