About On the one hand, I'm pretty excited about this because it's my first attempt at a longer exposure on moving water that actually almost worked. On the other hand, I can't decide if I like the giant fern leaves in the front. What do you think?

All critiques welcome--I want to go back to see if I can get it right before the creek dries up for the summer.

M --

Thanks for your comment. Whittemore Gulch is in Purissima Canyon just south of Half Moon Bay, California.

Anne

Neil,

No need to be sorry, that's exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for! I like your idea of getting into the creek--I just need to find a place to do that where it's not a 6 foot drop into the gully! There are billions of ferrns in this forest, so I'm sure you'll be seeing some eventually. :-)

Thanks for your feedback--it's appreciated.

Regards,
Anne

I like the photo but agree I'd like to see more of the running water. What really caught my eye though was the title. Whittemore is my maiden name and not a real common one. Could you give me more info on exactly where this photo was taken?

Hi Anne, nice to see you posting and experimenting. I'm sorry but i have to agree with the others about not seeing quite what you tried to do with the water - never mind! Next time i would go back and get into the creek itself. Don't forget your tripod and try to get a really tight shot of the water with just a little detail next to it to put it in perspective. I see you are using digital so don't be afraid to take 100 images if need be. Try each time a different shutter speed and i'm sure you will be amazed at the results. (PS i would leave the frens out of the water picture, but maybe try a different series of close ups on the ferns :-) Best wishes and lot's of luck, Neil

Anne, my original message disappeared :-( Let's try again ...

I agree with Teunis. Too much leaf in the foreground. The image is dark, so the running water is not very obvious (at least not on my screen) so you would need to lighten it a bit. See the beautiful moss on the hanging branch? When you go back, get that as part of the image - I think it will compliment the running water beautifully.
