About	I'm just getting started so for now I'm stuck with using good film in cheap equipment. Although the slide looks much better this scan (really, I promise). My main concern now is working on my compositions, cropping, etc.

There's nothing wrong with a Nikon N65; don't worry about the cheap equipment. ;)

This is a lovely composition. I'm not sure I'd know those were bluebonnets if you hadn't told me, but the photo works well even so.

If you wanted to make the bluebonnets more prominent, I'd use the lens at the 28mm setting and recompose by getting right down in them - so they'd be the foreground, with the tree and field behind. But that's a different composition entirely, and again, there's nothing to nitpick about this one. Well done.
