Jane, from your about, I got my first SLR only a month after you and it was a manual, upgraded in March to a canon elan, and love it. What I have learned from my new (found friends at Usefilm)and photography about this picture is that a shallow DOF on wild flowers is not a bad thing it's somewhat like a portrait, but to get an even better picture of a flower you need to use an aperture of say like 22, use a tripod and wait for the breeze not to be blowing. I took a whole roll or two of flowers with shallow DOF and after realizing what everyone was trying to get through my head and finally did, I took another whole roll of the same flowers, haven't got the results back yet, but I'm really excited to see them.
