Interesting, "black spot" disease? I had no idea...

The coloring of the rose is beautiful. I think it deserves center stage. The yellowing leaves distract from the beauty of the flower. I took your shot and cropped it in my editing software as an example and attached it here. I see your shot was taken in 1997. That's the year I planted a rose garden in my back yard. The bushes all developed "black spot" disease. It looks as if your rose bush had this disease. I gave up fighting it and replaced the rose garden with another patio.
