Some time ago I read an interview with a professional photographer about portrait sessions. When asked how many shots he made for a single portrait. He answered, "Two shots", and one extra shot for every additional person. Well, in your case, that would have been 8 shots.

In my experience, when dealing with kids, it takes many more...
