Hi,Heather, thanks for your help.I asked my friends about how to brighten it, they provided me adjust color balance or contrast. But I worried about it will make the picture looks untrue.Koen and you did good jobs, much better than me,thanks a lot!

hi vivien,
This often happens to me too. Usually just using the auto levels option in photoshop brings the picture much closer to what I actually saw. I did that with yours and also added 10% saturation. Wish I could help you with getting it right in the camera, but I'm afraid my expertise is with the software instead!
Heather:)

I think you are right to use orange, since it's the warmest color in spectrum.I am trying to think out a better way...

A bit of explanation: I chose the orange in the foreground since it is a warm colour (orange is the warmest colour in the spectrum). This wil make the foreground come forward, when contrasted with the grayish green-blue in the background. Green-blue is the coldest colour, which recedes. So I just wanted to give the picture some more volume. I am sure there are better ways to do it.

I put a transparent layer with a colour gradient on it, going from orange (below) to transparent white (above). And I sharpened it up a bit. I also wanted to crank up the highlights a bit but I could not find a way to do it quickly. At the moment of scanning, you may want to search for a way to set the scanning curve in the software. With this you can alter the mapping from input value (photo on paper) to output value (digital). This way you can alter tonal values easily and without losing information if applied correctly. It can best be done at scan time.

Now is there a photoshop wizard here who can help us out ? ;)

Koen, what did you do on it? I can't see it since it's too small, and I couldn't open it just now.I am not good at photoshop, though I learn it by myself,I have classses of painting only this semester(classes of photoshop next semester). You made it brighter??
Anyway,thanks *grin* Vivien

I am very bad at Photoshop, but I gave it a try. What do you think ? It can be made a lot better, maybe some gifted person may enlighten us here :)
